The Interstellar restaurant in Mexico City invites you to dine under the stars while still being indoors. Inspired by the vast unknowns of the universe and the Christopher Nolan film of the same name, the locale boasts an awe-inspiring decor with 250,000 LED lights scattered atop the undulating ceiling and along the walls.
The delicate illumination is set against a black backdrop that spans from the ceiling to the floor. The stark contrast creates an immersive experience that will make you feel like you’re in a twinkling wonderland. This effect is amplified by the seating, with tables that are mirrored and reflect the starry canopy to create the illusion that the field of stars is never-ending.
The design of the establishment was developed by three firms: Almazán y Arquitectos Asociados, Concepto Taller de Arquitectura, and Pin Studio. In addition to all of the lights, they continued the otherworldly theme at the entrance of Interstellar. A floor-to-ceiling bookshelf has texts that are suspended in mid-air as if they too were floating in space.
Interstellar was designed as part of Millesime Mexico 2019, an annual gastronomic festival that was first launched in 2007.
